2016 Hope Hospice Invitational

Every September it is our pleasure to work with Hope Hospice & Palliative Care of Rhode Island on their annual Golf Invitational held on Sakonnet Golf Club’s gorgeous grounds. This tournament is one of their biggest fundraisers of the year and for the past five years we have had the pleasure of working closely with this organization to cater the event.

We took a different approach to the menu this year in comparison to the tournaments we’ve catered in the past. We designed a menu composed entirely of passed appetizers and passed sliders for the golfers to nosh on post-invitational.

HHCRI Gala Kick Off

We have the pleasure of working very closed with Home and Hospice Care of Rhode Island each year on multiple fundraising opportunities, meetings, and employee appreciation events. For those of you that aren’t aware, Home and Hospice Care is a non profit organization that provides compassionate and quality health care to those facing the final stages of a serious illness.

Each year, HHCRI throws a Gala as a part of their fundraising events. This past week we had the pleasure of hosting their kick-off meeting here at our Cafe. With this year’s Miami Vice theme in mind, we served cuban inspired appetizers, homemade tortilla chips, and built an empanada bar.

Jacquart Champagne Dinner

We’ve featured a lot of fruits and veggies from our various farmers and even our own gardens but this week I said to myself, “Self …what about the other things in people’s refrigerators?” So we decided to feature yogurt, as that seems to be a popular item coming off the dairy shelves these days. 

Our yogurt comes to us from Narragansett Creamery, and let me tell you it’s one of the best yogurts I’ve had. One of our favorite “I Do’s” from last season – a wedding for Oni and Josh held at the historical Fort Adams in Newport, Rhode Island.

Andrea, or Oni as her friends call her, is originally a Southern Belle who graduated from the University of Georgia with her veterinary degree and transplanted to Rhode Island to complete her training. Despite her intentions not to stay, falling for Josh quickly rerouted her plans to migrate back south.

Josh is a native to Rhode Island, however he left for school from boarding school through law school. He found his way back home, however, to work at his family’s business and he is currently a third generation attorney at his family’s law firm. What’s Fresh Featured Ingredient – Schartner Farm’s Blueberries


As strawberry season nears an end, Schartner Farm’s brings us another Summer favorite – blueberries! These sweet little nuggets of joy are so much fun in our kitchen because we use them in so many ways, and they’re one of the easiest fruits to work with. Blueberries don’t require any peeling, coring, or cutting … you just pick ’em and enjoy!

Blueberries, also referred to as a superfood, are not only delicious but they’re so good for you considering their so high in nutritional value. They are a great source of Vitamin C, potassium, magnesium, and fiber, and are lower in calories than other fruits with zero fat.
